FAMILIES ARE SELECTED BASED ON NEED, ABILITY TO PAY AND WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER. Please understand that Habitat does not give away free homes. You must meet certain criteria to be eligible. The percentage of your monthly income that you currently spend on housing is considered to determine need. You will be required to openly and fully discuss your financial situation with Habitat personnel. You and your family will be considered if your annual total income is between 30-60% of the median income for Autauga and Chilton Counties. See charts below to see if your income falls within our guidelines. Ability to Pay is based on your debt to income ratio and the ability to pay a zero-interest mortgage, along with the escrow to cover homeowner insurance and property taxes. Willingness to Partner is based on if you and/or your co-applicant is willing to earn up to 400 hours of sweat equity. These hours are earned by helping to build on someone else's home, building on your own home, volunteering in the community and participating in homeowner education classes. We require our homeowners to complete classes on finances/budgeting, understanding mortgages, insurance, escrow, home maintenance and yard care. Applicants are not eligible for consideration if they have not worked or lived in our service for a minimum of 9 months, are a convicted sex offender or have drug convictions in the past three years. For those of living in Autauga County, you are eligible to apply when we have an application fair set up for Autauga County. For those living in Chilton County, you are eligible to apply when we have an application fair set up for Chilton County. A Brush with Kindness :We are offering a repair program to serve those who need some basic exterior repairs performed. If you currently own your home and it is in need of repair, you may be considered for services through this program. You must meet the same income guidelines as shown below to qualify. Additionally, our family selection process for this program is similar to the new home program. We will review your income, all debts and credit history. Additionally, your home will be assessed to determine the level of repair needed and have an estimated quote given for cost of materials. To qualify for this program, your home would need to be able to be repaired within the scope of our program. Also, you would need to be able to afford the monthly payment plan set up for you to cover the cost of the materials used in your home. The funds received to reimburse us for materials is then used to purchase repair materials for the next home project for another family. Please contact the office to set up an appointment to complete an application. We will not do walk in applications; you must set up an appointment please.
